When to Offer Wisdom and When to Hold Your Tongue

When to Offer Wisdom and When to Hold Your Tongue post thumbnail image

How we talk to people tells us a lot about what kind of person we are. Do you always feel like others around you are foolish or wrong? Have you tried to convince someone of the errors of their ways only to be ridiculed or insulted? There are times when we must hold our tongue. It all depends on the kind of person we seek to help. If they are known for rejecting wisdom or counsel, then sometimes it’s best to keep our mouths shut. Note what this bit of wisdom has to say:

“Whoever corrects a scoffer gets himself abused, and he who reproves a wicked man incurs injury. Do not reprove a scoffer, or he will hate you; reprove a wise man, and he will love you. Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be still wiser; teach a righteous man, and he will increase in learning.”

Let’s flip this around. Are you the person that people feel like they need to correct? How do you respond when someone wants to share their wisdom with you? Do you ridicule or attack them? Is that the kind of response you should have? Learn more about the wisdom that leads to a better life by clicking below.
